My Credentials
What I Have Been Up To Recently
I am interested in...
The ability to learn about how art has been modified, shifted and adapted over time is extremely interesting. I love learning about various movements, changes in style, medium, subject matter, and the differences between artists themselves. Not only am I engaging with the cannon of art, I am able to see that there is not one history but multiples, and through learning about museums and galleries I am able to fully understand how professionals engage and project narratives of art. Both Art History and Fine Art work together in harmony, each subjects inspires the other, both in writing my essays but also within my practical work, which are both visible on this site.
Within my Fine Art practice I am heavily interested in objects and artifacts, I enjoy exploring their life histories in detail. The juxtaposition between the archaic and the modern is one of the main features of my work. This combined with ideas of the importance of ritualistic function, and how individuals create meaning through objects, is something I'm heavily interested in. I love exploring the medium of surface, combining painting, drawing and printmaking to create many different series of works seen within this website. I also like to explore mixed media within different projects as I don't like confining myself to one medium, instead enjoy experimenting with lots simultaneously.
Experiencing different cultures and witnessing different methods of display really interests me. I enjoy traveling to different countries and visiting their galleries, museums and sites of interest. Most recently I have been to Madrid, Barcelona and Washington. These visits provided insights regarding the variations in collections, the way information is conveyed, and how alternating narratives are constructed. I have enjoyed exploring the art in Berlin, Amsterdam, Spain, London, as well as the way the city of Plymouth fits into the art sector. In addition, I really enjoy visiting National Trust Stately Homes and experiencing how art is displayed in situ rather than a gallery setting. The history of the home is something I am avidly interested in, and therefore visits to such places sparks my curiosity.
More About Me
In Case You Were Curious
Originally from Ingatestone, Essex, I have just graduated from Plymouth University with an Undergraduate BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art and Art History. Completing a Joint Honours degree has enabled me to fully immerse myself not only just in the practical side of art, but also within the scope of the history of art itself. Although it can often prove challenging, it has enabled me to build fundamental practical and analytical skills, which will enable me to become a well rounded Art Historian and Fine Artist in the future.
